SkyQuaker - Severed Souls

Severed Souls, the final studio album by SkyQuaker, is now available to stream. The record was completed with care and respect by those who worked closest to him and was released by his family on 27 October 2025, following Stephen’s death on 17 June 2024.

Developed over four years, the album reflects an extensive period of recording and refinement, with many of Stephen’s compositional ideas stretching back long before the project formally began. While Stephen Hope Wynne, Ben “Ferdy” Ford, and George “Georgie Mac” McFarlane form the central musical partnership, Severed Souls is built on the contributions of a large group of musicians whose performances give the record its breadth, colour, and character. It is a genuinely collaborative work shaped by many hands and many creative voices.

Known for his humour and creativity, Stephen was also a deep and constant thinker. His mind rarely rested. He worked tirelessly, thought intensely, and often carried ideas privately, shaping them day and night in ways not always seen by others. That inner world is reflected throughout this album.

The record features an exceptional group of musicians whose performances bring depth, colour, and character to the project. These artists include:

Stephen Hope Wynne – vocals, composer and songwriter, guitar, French horn

Ben “Ferdy” Ford – guitar

George “Georgie Mac” McFarlane – bass, production, sound design

Mike Garson – piano

Dave Valentine – drums

Roo Savill – vocals

SevernDuo – strings

Paul Jordanous – trumpets

Brian Gulland – woodwinds

Kateryna Tsar’kova – bandura (Ukraine)

Tom Lawrenson – orchestral programming

Andy Prince – Chapman Stick

Michael W. Bell – additional strings and tubular bells

Across its sixteen tracks, Severed Souls showcases the breadth of Stephen’s writing, from expansive arrangements to moments of striking intimacy. The reflective Hebrew Psalm, inspired after he heard a moving a cappella performance at a funeral, features the expressive voice of Idit Arad. Other works, such as Distance, preserve deeply personal performances, including a heartfelt French horn line played by Stephen himself. The final track, Kids Next Door, looks back to Stephen’s earliest musical chapter and pays tribute to his punk band, Kidz Next Door.

This is a fully produced studio album, shaped through years of refinement, recording, and shared creative effort. It stands as Stephen Hope Wynne’s final artistic statement.
